About me

I first got into television whilst a student at Imperial College London, where the students’ union had a television station known as STOIC (Student Television of Imperial College). We mostly focussed on news and light ents, and broadcast a bit around college and online. During my first year I mostly did studio stuff – camera, floor managing, and occasionally sound mixing, but once second year rolled around I finally managed to sneak in on one of the PCs running a really old version of Adobe Premiere… and I never left.

The following years were spent doing part-time work at a variety of places where former STOIC members were working, before moving into freelance digitising once I graduated university. Whilst thinking about long-term career options I decided that I really wanted some formal editing tuition to give me the skills and confidence I needed to go out and get the jobs I really wanted, so I did the Editing MA course at the National Film and Television School from January 2007 – January 2009, whilst keeping my hand in on freelance assisting work.

After graduation, I started on a freelance career largely based in Soho. The overall plan is to try to keep an eye out for anything to further my skill set and relevant experience whilst earning a living wage. I’m starting to get assorted work at various places on a day by day basis, and am hoping that bigger things will come of it.

You can see my main website at http://jaa-editing.com/ for further information on the types of project I’ve been involved with so far, in and out of the school.
