The Shed (Farm Group) - digitiser.

Freelance, July 06 - present

• Digitising on programmes including “The X-Factor” and “8 out of 10 Cats”, including multicamera footage (on Avid Film Composer in DVCAM, HDV, DigiBeta and others, utilising the Avid Unity system)

• Consolidation of sequences across Unity

• Compilation of sequences of shots for b-roll or reference

Work including:

• Playing out tapes to send to BBC World for conforming and transmission

• Assembling B-rolls from footage shot for documentaries (with Final Cut Pro)

• Authoring DVDs based on existing templates (with DVD Studio Pro)

• Tape and DVD duplication (DV CAM, mini DV, Beta SP, DVD±R / RW, VHS, S-VHS)

• General office work - filling out forms with details of programme credits, music, contributors etc.

Editing work (in association with Remote Productions):

• Offline ‘fine tuning’ of multiple shorts produced in the ‘from script to screen in eight weeks’ and ‘documentary filmmaking’ courses, including basic sound mixing (with Final Cut Pro)

• Colouring of several short films (with Final Cut Pro)

Technical assistant duties:

• Assisting with the activities of the single and three day courses run at Ealing Studios

• Troubleshooting technical issues with cameras and microphones during filming, and ensuring adequate power supplies are available throughout the day

• Collecting kit together at the end of the filming

• Setting up the editing computers and digitising footage as it comes in

• Helping the students to edit their scenes, providing technical and creative advice

• Assembling the projects for screening at the end of the day

• Collating all footage onto a single hard drive for later processing and DVD authoring, ensuring a logical system is in place for the person who’ll be working on it later

Interests:

• I enjoy many forms of music, and played principal oboe for 4 years in the Trafford Youth Orchestra

• I like to read a lot, particularly modern fiction and popular science books
